Instructional Philosophy:

  • A rider must understand how a horse thinks and sees the world. Riders who insist on viewing the horse from the human perspective will forever suffer misunderstanding and conflict and torment their horses

  • A balanced seat is the foundation for correct and well-timed aids that create light communication and abstain the need for force

  • The rider is a servant to his horse; not the other way around

  • Learning to ride well is a journey that should be FUN!

Training Philosophy:

  • I adhere to the principles of the classical training scale

  • A horse only becomes round and allows the aids to go through his back if he is calm and trusting

  • All methods and aims of training regardless of purpose should promote a calm, supple and straight horse

  • Riding is not just recreation for the rider. The horse should find it FUN to be trained!

Instruction and training goals for our students are geared towards progressing through the levels of USDF competition regardless of a student's competitive aims.  This allows students to see the results of their work, set logical and attainable new goals as well as remain focused on the quality and thoroughness of their work.

The progression through the levels is based on the

Pyramid of Training. For more information please review the US Dressage Federation website.
